Raja Ampat Yacht Broker

Catamarans and sailing yachts for sale

Catamarans and sailing yachts for sale for Raja Ampat cruising are typically 15 to 30 metres with shoal draft suited to karst channels and shallow lagoons. Most available stock lies in Bali or the wider Southeast Asian market and is delivered east after closing. The desk covers survey, import position, flag and registration.

Why multihulls suit this cruising ground

Raja Ampat rewards a boat that can get close. The best anchorages sit behind reef edges and inside limestone bays where a deep-draft monohull has to stand off. A catamaran with two metres of draft, shade over a wide deck and tender capacity for four to eight people is a better private platform here than a comparably priced deep-keel yacht — and in a climate this warm, deck volume is a comfort feature, not a luxury.

What the desk looks at

Area What matters here specifically
Draft and beam Draft governs where you can anchor; beam governs which yards and lifts can haul the boat in Indonesia.
Build and structure Composite hulls in the tropics need a moisture and laminate assessment, not a walk-through.
Power and water Generator capacity, solar array and watermaker output define how long you can stay out. Raja Ampat has very few places to plug in.
Rig and sails Age, service history and whether the sail wardrobe suits light-air island cruising rather than ocean passages.
Import and flag Whether the yacht is foreign-flagged on a cruising permit or already Indonesian-flagged. This is the single biggest structural variable in the deal.
Delivery Cost and season for the passage east if the vessel is lying in Bali or further west.

Ownership and import

A foreign buyer keeping a yacht in Indonesia long term generally holds it through an Indonesian company and flags it locally; a buyer cruising through keeps it foreign-flagged under a temporary regime. Each route carries different duty, tax and permit consequences, and switching later is expensive. The mechanics are set out in the foreign buyer’s guide.

Sourcing beyond Papua

Because so little catamaran stock lies permanently in West Papua, a realistic search covers the feeder markets. For vessels lying west, the Bali desk covers catamarans in the Bali market. Once your boat is here, Waisai and Wayag are the natural northern base, and management covers the vessel while you are away.

Frequently asked questions

Is a catamaran a good boat for Raja Ampat?

For private cruising, yes. Shoal draft suits the karst channels and shallow lagoons, deck space works in a hot climate, and two engines help in tight anchorages. For commercial dive operations a monohull liveaboard usually carries more berths and dive plant per dollar.

Can I bring my own catamaran into Indonesia?

Foreign-flagged yachts cruise on a temporary import and cruising permit regime. Selling that yacht to an Indonesian buyer, or keeping it permanently, changes the tax and flag position entirely. Decide which of the two you are doing before the boat arrives.

Where are most catamarans in this region actually lying?

Very few sit permanently in Papua. Most stock available to a Raja Ampat buyer is lying in Bali, elsewhere in Indonesia or in the wider Southeast Asian cruising circuit, and is delivered east after the sale.
