Cost to Charter a Private Phinisi in Raja Ampat for a Week
Published by the Raja Ampat Yacht Broker Desk · Updated 19 August 2026
The cost of a private phinisi charter in Raja Ampat is driven by vessel size and cabin count, season, itinerary length and route, crew ratio, and what is included. Whole-vessel hire prices differently from a cabin on a scheduled departure, and all quotations from this desk are in USD.
What you are actually paying for
A week on a private phinisi is not a hotel rate with a boat attached. You are chartering a self-contained operation: crew salaries and rotation, fuel for the route you chose, provisioning for the whole party, water production, tender operations, and the compliance cost of running a certified passenger vessel in a marine park. Those costs move with your itinerary, which is why the same vessel produces different numbers for different weeks.
The variables, ranked by impact
| Variable | Effect |
|---|---|
| Vessel size and cabins | The base of the number. Crew count scales with vessel size whether the cabins are full or not. |
| Season and lead time | Peak windows and short-notice gaps behave very differently. |
| Route | Reaching Misool from Sorong costs sea time and fuel; a Dampier Strait week does not. |
| Diving | Guides, tanks, compressors and nitrox are an operating load, quoted explicitly. |
| Inclusions | Park entry, transfers, beverages and equipment rental are itemised rather than assumed. |
Questions to ask before comparing two quotes
- Is this whole-vessel hire or per cabin?
- Which park and entry contributions are inside the figure?
- Are airport transfers and the shore logistics included?
- How many dive guides, and at what guest ratio?
- What is the fuel policy if we change the route mid-charter?
Two quotations that look far apart are frequently the same money once the inclusions are aligned. Get both onto the same basis before deciding.
Length of trip
Seven nights is the practical minimum for a real Raja Ampat itinerary. Ten to twelve nights is what most private groups choose if they want both the central corridor and the south. Shorter trips spend a disproportionate share of the time under way — the geography is explained on Misool and the Dampier Strait.
Chartering as a route to ownership
If you charter the same class of vessel twice a year, run the ownership comparison properly: buying versus chartering. To book a week, start at Raja Ampat charter.
